The 5th Chennai International Film Festival opens to its audience on the 14th of December this year. The festivities continue till the 23rd of December.

The festival opens with the Oscar winner for the best foreign language film of the year “The Lives of Others” from Germany.

Films from over 30 countries have so far been confirmed and further entries are still being received.

French Films 6 French films under the caption “Living Together” are being screened
 
First Timers The film “A Bahrain Tale” from Bahrain is being screened.
First time entries from Morocco, Singapore, Denmark, Egypt and Lithuania are also being screened
 
Cannes winners Golden Palm winner at the Cannes film festival “4 Months 3 Weeks 2 Days” from Romania is being screened
 
Film Institute entries State award winning short films by students from Film and Television institute – Chennai are being screenedShort films made by students of LV Prasad Film and TV Academy are also being screened
 
Member’s section 3 short films directed by ICAF members will be screened
 
Film Focus – Seminar Film Focus, a seminar on Emir Kusturica and his films is being conducted by Prof. Dragan Milinkovic Fiman from Serbia. Three of Kusturica’s films (When Father Was Away on Business, Arizona Dream, Underground)will be screened during the seminar
